Seven letters, a plinth, and three interchangeable backdrops — a stylised swan, the Mumbles Pier papercut, and Three Cliffs Bay in silhouette. They all drop into the same base, so you can build one now and print another next month without starting again.

Abertawe — the mouth of the Tawe

That is the Welsh name, and it says exactly what it is. The English one came from somewhere else entirely — most likely Sveinsey, Old Norse for Sveinn’s island. Nothing to do with swans at all. The city took the swan anyway, which is a very Swansea thing to do.

Three backdrops, and two of them are places you can walk to on a Sunday: the pier out at Mumbles, and Three Cliffs Bay on Gower — traced from a photograph taken standing there. The swan makes three.

Designed and test-printed here in Swansea. Print it for the house, for the shop counter, for a leaving present, or for someone who moved away and still says “back home”.

Each backdrop is built in two levels, so a single swap part way up the print gives you a two-tone panel. The README tells you the exact layer number to change at — no guessing, no scrubbing the preview.
